The Superhero Conundrum (or how to save a Saturday when there is no phone booth in sight)...

DISPATCHES FROM THE GLENN COAST 6/29/24

ID this baby bird please...

It's summer on The Glenn Coast, which means it's pool time on The Glenn Coast, which means it's book-reading-by-the-pool time on The Glenn Coast, which means it's time to restock the library, so...

For the past week, I've been collecting summer reads in a number of subjects. I ordered some books from Amazon, I picked up an amazing coffee table book called "Ocean" on sale at Books Inc. in Mountian View yesterday, and then today, we decided to take a walk over to Luna, a great nearby Mexican restaurant, and then go to Recycle Bookstore to check out their ever-changing inventory of used books.

So, off we go, with plans to beat the rush to Luna. However, one block from our house, we almost stepped on a tiny grey baby bird trying to duck and hide on the sidewalk...

This sidewalk is next to a VERY busy street, with plenty of cars and trucks and dogs and cats and joggers and bikes, and well - yeah - danger.

We immediately had the Superhero conundrum - do I save the damsel in distress or continue with my other important plans? And, can I even save the damsel? And should I? And what does that really mean?

Well, we knew taking it home wasn't the right answer. And leaving it on the sidewalk wasn't the right answer. We could hear other birds chirping from above, so we made the assumption that baby just left the nest. We then decided that baby needed to go back into the tree. So, I used my backpack to push birdy into my baseball cap and then place him/her into the tree. That seemed to relieve him/her as birdy started grooming.

Cool...

With that dilemma solved, we headed to Luna for an excellent lunch - horchata french toast, chorizo con huevos, and Mezcal Margaritas. We love our Mexican cuisine here on The Glenn Coast, yes we do!

And... I reeled in quite a haul at the use bookstore - plenty of good reading over the July 4th break. A mix of music and wilderness, which is exactly my recipe for a good life.
